I bought this unit a few days back from another site. Setup was smooth. Plays the discs well. It only supports netflix accuweather youtube picassa and vuduhdmovies. I was able to use the software update option to get new updates to the software. It would be really great if it supports additional apps in future with the updates. Not sure if they will. So if you are buying this these are all the apps you will get.

But for the price it is really good with easy setup good picture and wifi access to these limited number of the apps.

This product works as well as the package directions and reviews indicated. Super easy set up for a novice like me. Nice slim design makes it unobtrusive and the small footprint is appreciated amidst all the other devices (satellite, DVD/VCR, sound bar.)

The wireless LG dongle works flawlessly with great speed connected to our wireless router. Must say, though, that the wireless router is in the same room. Incredibly clear and crisp video through Netflix for movies made in 1969 & the 1970′s. Haven’t tried a blu-ray DVD yet (need to bring them back from being on loan.)

This player has been much better than my more expensive LG. Faster to start the movie with great picture quality. I did have wifi problems as it seems to be weak or defective, but I hardwire anyways, so didn’t spend too much time on this. The latest updated did speed up the internet apps for me, but with so many devices now that are connected that have Netfix, etc. I don’t use them. Ex. Wii, PS3, Xbox, Mediacenter, Roku. If you are looking for internet apps then look away from any TV or Blu-ray player, and go with Roku or other similar device. It will be faster and have more choices.

If you are looking for a DVD player with a good feature set including MHL then this is a great player. Again very fast to start movies and the video and sound quality have also been very good.

Giving a Blu-ray player bad reviews due to speed of internet apps is not all that fair, as it is a BLURAY player 1st and foremost. And this player does that very very well.

Ok. I rated this item 3 stars which is comprised of 5 stars for picture/audio performance (and other things, more in a bit) but 1 star for extremely flakey and down-right dangerous firmware (more on that in a bit).

For for what gets 5 or 4-5 star ratings: The ‘good’
The image and picture quality of this Sony is the best to-date and rivals the best of blu-ray players at nearly any price. The available adjustments make for great enhancements and tweaks for any kind of display (plasma, lcd, led, projector (dlp or lcd or …). The streaming options are fantastic with Amazon Video, Netflix, YouTube, and a host of other streaming services (including music/radio streaming services). The Sony Entertainment Network is also available and that adds a host of additional options for viewing/listening (however, I’m not a fan so I’ve not explored it too much). Netflix on this unit (at least after performing latest firmware upgrade … more on that in the ‘ugly’ section of this…

Review : You get what you pay for…
…which is not a lot. It’s small, fairly good looking in a nondescript kind of way, is not riddled with buttons on the front panel, has Wifi and Netflix (nice combo) and a remote with an OK set of buttons.

Speaking of which (the remote that is), it has some weird connectivity problem. I used to own a Samsung DVD with HDD that had a very narrow field of reception, this is better but somewhat unresponsive. Sometimes you have to press a button three or four times before it reacts. Not OK.

And it does not support subtitles for Netflix. Which is lame since it’s a very new model released only months ago. Reminds me of Xbox 360: no subtitles support for playback from USB. Why? Bill knows. So, Mr. Toshiba boss; why no subtitles?

Oh and the Wifi, while nice and built in and no problems connecting is very slow on the uptake. Start the device, sit around and wait for it to connect. Not like the Toshiba laptop I’m writing this on which connects super fast…

Review : Great Player for the new model year 2011
The player is great. The menu system is the best I’ve used in a player and I returned both a Sony BD560 and a Samsung 6500 before getting this unit. Just a few notes for those that might be thinking of getting it this player.
#1 The internet options are extensive, new options to me like Amazon streaming and Skype, mixed with the mainstay apps like Netflix, Pandora, and many more. make this player very attractive to the streaming and online entertainment user.

#2 The firmware the unit currently ships with will not let you get into the Internet streaming apps or anything for that matter until you update the firmware. Updating the firmware from the 1.09 firmware it ships with will not work as of this date via wireless or wired internet connections. The secondary option is to burn the firmware to a disc. This you think would be straight foward, but it isn’t. Using Windows 7 or Vista, you MUST create an ISO 9660 ONLY… I went through 3 coasters before this player could…

After meeting with some difficulties with other brands, this Pioneer BDP-150 unlocked multi zone all region blu ray player works like a charm. I have used Pioneer electronics for years and never have had any problems. I am a solid believer in Pioneer technology and this one was a true test. I have not watched a 3D movie using it yet, but I’m sure there will be no problem. Consider me a fan of this product. If you are captivated by European blu ray offerings, you are safe with this player.
